Setley Ridge Vineyard was planted during the mid-80s and was purchased by Paul and Hayley in 1999. It is one of the hundreds of commercial vineyards now producing wines across England.
We produce mainly still whites, rose and red with an occasional sparkling range with a total annual production of 6000-8000 bottles. Since arriving at Setley we have embarked on a series of new planting to grow only disease-resistant varieties. This has enabled us to stop the use of non-organic pesticides which has greatly enhanced the sustainability of our land by natural means and greatly increased the diversity of the flora and fauna throughout the vineyard. This is important to us in such a sensitive location within the heart of the New Forest National Park.
After Winter pruning the growing seasons starts in late April to early May when the vines burst into life and the vines flower in late June. The harvest is from late September to early October which leads us to work in the winery over late Autumn and Winter. Bottling over winter takes place on-site and Whites and Rose can often be ready by Easter the following year. Reds take a little longer and benefit from ageing with oak and usually will be ready 18 months after harvest.
